Lesson 5 Names and Fatherhood of GOD

Part 1 - Names

Up to this point in our study we have learned about the existence of GOD, and about HIS nature and unity. In Bible lands, names had and have a significance unknown to us in the West. In a study of the names of GOD we can learn many things about GOD.

The Names of GOD are found in three forms:

1. Primary

2. Compound with EL

3. Compound with JEHOVAH

Primary name is one word only. For example: EL, ELAH, ELOHIM, JEHOVAH, ADON, ADONAI, GOD, LORD

Compound with EL. For example: ALMIGHTY GOD, MOST HIGH GOD, EVERLASTING GOD

Compound with JEHOVAH. For example: LORD GOD, JEHOVAH the EVERLASTING GOD

Let´s take a look at some of the Names of GOD, where they are found in Scripture, and what they mean.

1. ELOHIM is found in Genesis 2:4 and means THE ONE WHO IS MIGHTY or THE LORD WHO CREATES.

Genesis 22:14 1And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

6. ROPHI is found in Exodus 15:26 and means THE ONE WHO HEALS or THE LORD WHO HEALS.

Exodus 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

7. NISSI is found in Exodus 17:5 and means THE ONE WHO FIGHTS FOR US or THE
LORD OUR BANNER.

Exodus 17:5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.

8. YEKADDIA is found in Exodus 31:13 and means THE ONE WHO IS SANCTIFICATION or THE LORD WHO SANCTIFIED.

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT

II Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

IF we cannot fully understand the doctrine of the TRINITY, we should not be troubled. Let me share a quote with you about this:
“He who would try to understand the Trinity fully will lose his mind. But he who would deny the Trinity will lose his soul.” . Lindsell and Woodbridge

The TRINITY is a mystery and will remain a mystery until we meet the LORD in glory. However, this does not mean we cannot believe it. We must believe it. GOD is very different from us. HE is SPIRIT and we are human beings. Personally I feel that GOD is honored and pleased by our believing this doctrine. It is an act of faith.

Man is also a tripartite being - body, soul, and spirit - for we are made in the image and likeness of GOD. Let us worship this great and one true GOD WHO is so superior to us. Let us give thanks to each member of the TRINITY - the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT (GHOST) - for all that THEY have personally done for us.

Lesson 4 The TRINITY

Part 2

In this lesson we will have a look at the TRINITY acting in UNITY.

1. In Creation

GOD the FATHER spoke.

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

GOD the SON was the WORD spoken.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT moved upon the face of the waters.

Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Job 26:12-13 He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.
By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.

2. In the Incarnation

GOD the FATHER gave HIS only SON.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

GOD the SON was born into the world.

Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT came upon Mary to cause conception.

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

3. In Redemption

GOD the FATHER accepted the sacrifice of Calvary

Hebrew 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

GOD the SON offered HIMSELF as our substitute.

Hebrew 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT - JESUS offered HIMSELF “through the eternal Spirit”

Hebrew 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

4. In Salvation

GOD the FATHER received the prodigal from the far country.

Luke 15:22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

The FATHER welcomes the sinner, forgives him, supplies robes, rings, and a feast.

GOD the SON is the SHEPHERD that goes to seek the lost sheep.

Luke 15:4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT seals the new convert.

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

5. In Communion

GOD the FATHER invites us to come to HIM for fellowship.

Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

GOD the SON is the reconciliation.

II Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT effects this union and communion.

Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

6. In Prayer

GOD the FATHER is the ONE WHO receives the requests.

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

GOD the SON is the ONE in WHOSE NAME we pray.

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT directs us in our requests.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

7. In Glory

GOD the FATHER is to eventually receive the millennial kingdom.

I Corinthians 15:24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

GOD the SON is the ONE WHO will change our vile body to one like HIS.

Philippians 3:21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT gives the invitation.

Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

8. In Regeneration

GOD the FATHER records the new name in glory.

Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

GOD the SON cleanses the sin in HIS precious blood.

Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT performs the transforming miracle of the new birth.

John 3:3-6 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Lesson 4 The TRINITY

Part 1

In our lessons, so far, we have seen that there is one GOD. However, a careful study of the Scripture will show that GOD exists in three PERSONS. A GODHEAD manifested in three PERSONS.

Colossians. 2:9 - For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

A common objection is: How can GOD be three PERSONS and one GOD at the same time? Wouldn´t that make three GODS? The TRINITY - one GOD in three PERSONS - is hard for us as humans to grasp. However in Isaiah 55:8-9 GOD teaches us that human reason has no bearing in the study of GOD.

Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

As a side note before actually beginning the lesson, neither the words “Trinity” nor “Triune GOD” can be found in the Scripture.

Let´s take a look at the basis of the doctrine of the TRINITY.

Matt. 3:13-17. Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Here, in the baptism of Jesus, we see the TRINITY at work.
GOD the FATHER spoke from Heaven ---17.And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

GOD the SON, our LORD JESUS CHRIST, was being baptized.

GOD the HOLY SPIRIT descended like a dove and alighted on the SAVIOUR.

Let´s look at Mat. 28:19 where we as Christians are given a commission.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

(HOLY SPIRIT and HOLY GHOST refer to the same PERSON of the GODHEAD).

Let´s look at the benediction in II Corinthians 13:14.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

Let´s have a look at Genesis 1:26 where plural terms are during during the creation on man.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Now let´s take a look at some illustrations of the doctrine of the TRINITY.

Water is revealed in three forms - liquid, ice, and vapor (steam) and yet it is still H2O.

A shamrock is a plant. It was used by Saint Patrick to illustrate the doctrine of the TRINITY. A shamrock is one leaf divided into three distinct sections.

I am an illustration of this doctrine as well (and so are you). I am only one person but I can be revealed as three persons. My mother sees me as her daughter. She sees me differently from anyone else and I respond to her in ways that are different from my responses to others. My children see me as a mother and all that is involved with being their mother. My husband sees me as a wife which, again, is a relationship that is different from the other two. However, I am still only one person although I am revealed as daughter, mother, and wife at the same time.

GOD is one indivisible GOD revealed in three separate PERSONS.

I feel it is important at this point to emphasize that the TRINITY remains a mystery and no illustration can even begin to fully explain it. However, I do feel that these illustrations given help us to get a grasp on this difficult, complex doctrine.

Remember that GOD is SPIRIT and we are physical. Because of this it is hard for us to fully comprehend GOD: HE is infinite while we are finite. To try to explain the TRINITY in terms we can grasp is an attempt to put the facts of the infinite in finite terms.

I firmly believe that there is one GOD and one GOD only, who is eternally existing and WHO manifests HIMSELF to us in three PERSONS - FATHER, SON, and HOLY SPIRIT.

Lesson 3 GOD is a Balanced Being.

Part 2

GOD is Faithful

I Corinthians 1:9 - God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Faithful means someone who can be totally trusted. Someone who is reliable and dependable. GOD is faithful because HE is honest and never changes. How great is the faithfulness of GOD?

Psalm 36:5 - Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

All GOD does HE does in faithfulness.

Psalm 33:4 - For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

GOD is Merciful

Psalm 103:8 - The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

Deuteronomy 4:31 - (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

God is merciful and rather than inflicting pain and death as punishment for sin, HE gives us many blessings - health, comforts, and earthly possesses to both the saved and the lost.

Matthew 5:45 - That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

GOD is sovereign and can choose to whom HE will show mercy.

Romans 9: 15, 18 - For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

Exodus 20:6 -And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

How great is GOD´s mercy?

Psalm 103:11,17 - For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;

GOD extends mercy to those who trust HIM.

Psalm 32:10 - Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

When the repentant sinner comes to JESUS for forgiveness he does not come claiming his own worth, but throws himself on the mercy of GOD.

GOD is Just

Deuteronomy 32:24 - They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.

Psalm 19:9 - The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

GOD is just and righteous. HE will measure out fair judgment to each and every individual. Because GOD is just, righteous, and holy HE must act in a way that is just, fair, and upright.

Genesis 18:25 - That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

GOD will most certainly do right at all times. GOD as the just ONE will be the final JUDGE of all things.

I Kings 8:32 - Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

How can GOD be loving and yet demand holiness at the same time? How can HE be merciful and just at the same time to a guilty sinner? The answer to both questions can only be found at Calvary. Calvary was the expression of not only GOD´s wrath against sin, but of HIS mercy toward the guilty sinner.

It is true that GOD is love, but GOD´s love is not a sentimental type of love that gushes over sin. GOD´s love is holy and just. If you want to truly understand GOD, HIS character and HIS nature, study Calvary. There you will begin to understand how GOD can hate sin and yet love the sinner. It was there at Calvary that the holiness and justice of GOD were satisfied by the fulfillment of all the laws requirements. It was there at Calvary that the repentant sinner is permitted to enter heaven legally.

Lesson 3 GOD is a Balanced Being

Part 1:

GOD is holy, loving, merciful, and faithful. GOD is also just and righteous. Many people today have a one-sided view of GOD. They put all their emphasizes on HIS love and forget that HE is also just and holy. It is GOD´s love that allows HIM to forgive sin and show mercy to the repentant sinner. (Repentant is the key word). However, the holiness and justice of GOD demands that sin be punished to the full extent of the law.

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of GOD is eternal life through JESUS
CHRIST our LORD.

Many argue that hell is an impossibility. How can a loving, merciful GOD send a human being there for all eternity? To think this is to have an unbalanced view of GOD. Take a look at II Corinthians 5:11 and think about it. It will help you to understand the horrors of hell and the blackout a Calvary as you consider the holiness and severity of GOD´s wrath against sin.
GOD´s holiness demands that we be holy. GOD´s law places eternal damnation on the guilty sinner in accordance with GOD´s justice. It is one of the greatest miracles of all time that GOD found a way of salvation that satisfies both GOD´s holiness and HIS love. It satisfies the law and yet allows man to be a creature of free will who can choose salvation or damnation, heaven or hell.

GOD is Holy.

How can we imagine HIM as anything but perfectly holy. To be holy means to be pure; to be undefiled. GOD is totally pure. Read these verses: Habakkuk 1:13; Exodus 15:11; I Samuel 2:2; and Isaiah 6:3.

The holiness of GOD separated HIM from fallen man.

Eph. 2:13 - But now in CHRIST JESUS ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of CHRIST.

The only way that man can approach holy GOD is through the blood of JESUS CHRIST.

GOD is holy. GOD hates sin. His holy wrath must punish sin.

Isaiah 53:6 - All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on HIM the iniquity of us all.

This is why the FATHER forsook and punished HIS SON on Calvary. This demand was assumed by the SAVIOUR on the cross and the sacrifice completely satisfied the FATHER.

GOD is Love.

I John 4:8 - He that loveth not knoweth not GOD; for GOD is love.

Love here is not only a verb, it is also a noun. If GOD lives in my heart then I must love because I am indwelt by LOVE.

I John 4:7 - Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of GOD, and knoweth GOD

What is love? It is a desire for and a delight in the welfare on the one whom the love is bestowed. True love even loves sinners and enemies.

Matthew 5:44-45 - But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That ye may be the children of your FATHER which is in heaven; for HE maketh HIS sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

John 3:16 - For GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, that whosoever believeth in HIM should not perish, but have everlasting life.

GOD loves the world (mankind) and because of that love HE formed a plan of salvation so that we (mankind) might have the opportunity to escape wrath and damnation.

Lesson 2 - The Person of GOD

Part 1

The Bible is our only source of true knowledge about GOD.

Read John 1:18; I John 4:12; Exodus 33:20; and Exodus 33:24.

We know from Scripture that Moses talked with GOD and saw part of Him but he did not see GOD´s face.

Jesus, the Son of God, came from heaven to earth to reveal GOD the Father to us.

Read John 14:7-11. Here Jesus tells Philip that He, Jesus, is the revelation of GOD.

The wisdom of the world would say we must know ourselves. However, Jesus says we must know the Father.

Read John 17:3. If we are to have eternal life we must know GOD the Father and Jesus Christ, His Son.

What is personality? It can be characterized by possessing knowledge, feelings, and will power. An idol is devoid of personality. It has no knowledge, no intelligence. It cannot feel emotion. It has no will and it cannot respond. GOD, however, has personality. He is an individual and He has definite characteristics.

GOD is a person. He is not some unseen force or power like electricity.

Read Jeremiah 10:10; Acts 14:15; I Thessalonians 1:9, II Chronicles 16:9; and Psalm 94:11.

GOD is a Spirit. This means He has no flesh or bones or blood.

Read John 4:24; I Timothy 1:17; and I Timothy 6:16.

The LORD our GOD is one God and one God only In contrast, pagan cultures have many gods.

Read Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 44:6; and Isaiah 45:21

In this part of our second lesson we have seen that GOD has personality. We have also looked at GOD´s nature (Spirit) and at GOD´s unity (the only GOD). In our next lesson we will begin looking at His Natural and Moral Attributes.

Keep growing.

Abundant Blessings.

Searching the Scripture

Part 3

Look around you. See the planet we live on. The stars and moon light the night sky. The sun marks the days, months, and years of our lives. The rain waters the earth. The wind moves through the trees. All of this came some somewhere. Someone or something caused it to come into being.

Look at a book. Someone wrote it. Someone printed it. The book did not write itself, produce itself, print itself. It required the acts of an intelligent being.

Look at the building around you. Someone built it. Someone planned it. Cement, sand, lumber, pipes, wire, windows and roofing didn´t suddenly start swirling around and over time formed the structure.

The person who denies God would have you believe that everything - the trees, the sun, the stars, the mountains, even you - just happened accidentally.

If you took all the pieces required to make a watch - gears, springs, hands, etc. - and put them in a sack, how many millions of years would you have to shake the sack before a watch would form? It would never happen. And yet atheists want us to believe that over eons of time everything formed by accident. This is not an intelligent deduction. The sensible answer to all creation is that it is the act of an intelligent being we call GOD.

Let´s return to our watch. It not only is, but it needs a designer. It was planned with a purpose - telling time.

If we will take a close look at the world around us it is obvious that everything large or microscopic shows design and purpose. Our world has a designer and a creator. It was not an accident and neither are we.

Man is intelligent and he has a moral nature. Conscience teaches man right from wrong. Regardless of what an evolutionist pretends to believe and wants you to believe, life comes from life. In the beginning life came from a Being who possesses eternal life. Such life can only be found in GOD.

Read Psalm 36:9. GOD is the source of life. Non-living things don´t suddenly become living things. Life is in GOD and in His Son Jesus who says various times that He is Life.

Read John 11:25 and John 14:6. In John 10:28 Jesus says He gives us eternal life. Life has a beginning and that beginning is GOD.

Atheism solves no problems and answers none of mankind´s questions. When we accept Genesis 1:1 ¨In the beginning GOD... ¨ we are led into a fuller understanding of life and of GOD Himself.

Read Hebrews 11:6. Like children we must have a simple faith. We must come to Him in complete trust.

Do you have that simple faith? Do you trust Him?

Remember, read the Bible and pray. This is how you grow in the LORD.

Abundant Blessings.

Searching the Scripture

GOD exists. We know this is true. All around us is evidence of HIS existence. We need only open our eyes and look around.

Turn to Psalm 19:1 and read it slowly to yourself. The words are beautiful and powerful. The beauty and the glory of the heavens shout out the existence of GOD.

Read Romans 1:20. All creation teaches us about GOD and HIS eternal power. Those who chose to deny GOD's existence have no excuse. Creation declares that GOD is. If we accept the Scripture we will acknowledge the existence of GOD.

Man has a universal belief in a supreme being. Every tribe on every continent believe in a being higher and greater than themselves, and they believe that this being creates and has power over creation.

Read Romans 2:15 The existence of GOD is written in the human heart and mind.

Read Acts 17:23. Although they did not know HIM personally, the Athenians knew that GOD existed.

It is doubtful that a true atheist exists. A blind man may say that the sun does not exist because he cannot see it, but that does not change the fact that the sun does indeed rise and set every day.

Why are some so insistent that GOD does not exist? It isn't because they cannot find HIM. Rather it is because if HE exists then they are faced with the fearful responsibility of being accountable to HIM for their deeds. The atheist says there is no GOD. In this way he is not responsible to anyone and he can live and die as he pleases.

I have never seen my brain, but I know I have one. It controls my central nervous system. I live and breath because of that control. I don't have to see my brain to see what it does. Because I can see this wonderful and complex world I live in, I can believe in the existence of GOD.

During the week, don't forget to spend time in GOD's Word. Pray and grow.

Abundant Blessings!

Searching the Scripture

Lesson 1: The Existence of God

Part 1

As a Christian, I belive that there is one God in three persons. This is called the Trinity and the three persons are God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Personally, I am a Christian by conviction and I am a scientist by profession. Both of these aspects of my life, Christian and scientist, have instilled in me a sense of order and a desire for truth. As a Christian I do not question how one God can be three persons. As a scientist, and a finite human being, I can understand the concept of the Trinity through observing the physical world we live in. Often those who do not believe there is a God and those who are babies in their new-found belief wuestion the Trinity. How can one "person" (God) be three people (the Trinity)?

Everyone is familiar with water. Our planet is over 75% water. Without it there would be no life on this planet. Water can be in any one of three states. It can be a gas (vapor) like steam or the clouds. Water can be a liquid that flows in the rivers, rains down from the sky, and quenches our thirst. Or water can be a solid in the form of ice that make up glaciers and cools your lemonade. Gas, liquid, solid - regardless of the form it takes, it is still water. God is still God regardless of whether He is Fathe or Son or Holy Spirit. Another example in nature is an egg. An egg has an outer covering (the shell) that provies protection for what is inside. Within the shell is the yolk (the yellow part) that developes into the chick. Also within the shell is the white or clear part. Shell, yolk, white - all are still an egg. Three that make one. A trinity. Another example would be myself. I am a daughter to my parents. I am a wife to my husband. I am a mother to my children. I am, however, still me, but I have a different role to play depending on the relationship. God is the same way. Each part of the Trinity has a distinct role. God the Father will be our judge. God the Son is our advocate. God the Holy Spirit guides us in paths of righteousness (if we allow Him to do so). In this first lesson we are going to dwell on God the Father.

To begin, we will study the existence of God. In the world today many would like to deny the existence of God. We are constantly confronted by stheists and others who want proof that God exists.

Take up your Bible and turn to I Corintians 2:14. Read the verse.

People who wish to believe that there is no God are nothing new. They've been around since for most of human history. The simple truth is that the natural man (the person who does not believe in God) has a difficult time believing in what he cannot see or touch.

Once when challenged to prove the existence of God, I asked the person why he did not believe. His reply: "I don't believe in anything I cannot see or feel." My response was to ask him how his breathing was. He demanded to know what that had to do with anything. I answered, "By your own definition, if you can't see it or feel it, it doesn't exist. You can't see oxygen or feel it or hold it or smell it or taste it, but it is all around you. The proof that exygen exists is that you are standing here, alive. And the fact that you are alive is proof of God's existence." The man got angry and stomped away. He didn't like his beliefs questions. What beliefs you ask? To believe there is no God requires more faith than is needed to believe there is a God.

The question of faith in the existence of God is easily solved for the Christian. Genesis 1:1 takes care of it. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." The Bible begins with the positive fact that God does exist, and it is plainly stated in Psalm 14:1 what type of person denies the existence of God. "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God."

Personally, I know there is a God. I talk to Him everyday and He hears me. How do I know He exists? Because I ask in prayer and He answers.

In our next lesson (part 2), we will use the Scripture to prove God's existence.

Abundant Blessings!!!!

Bible Study

I have been planning to start a Bible study here on my blog for quite awhile and have been wondering where to begin. After much prayer I have decided that the beginning of any study of Bible doctrine should begin with God. The Bible is, after all, God's Word and it is through the Bible that He speaks to us. In this study, our only textbook will be the Bible, and be forewarned, I'm not going to spoon feed you. From personal experience I have found that I learn better when I have to do some of the searching myself. As a teacher I have found this to also be true with my student. And it is probably the same with you.

Our first lesson with be entitled The Existence of GOD and will begin on Tuesday, November 25th. This first lesson will be divided into three parts. I will post a new lesson (or part of a lesson) on each Tuesday. I hope that you will join me as we take our Bible in hand and search the Scriptures. And be assured that comments are welcome. Looking forward to seeing you right here next Tuesday, November 25th. Until then.....Abundant Blessings!
