Lesson 11 The Humanity of CHRIST

Part 3

JESUS was moved by the instincts of normal human beings.

1. HE hungered.
Matthew 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

2. HE thirsted.
John 4:7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

The fifth cry from the cross - John 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

3. HE became weary.
John 4:6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

4. HE slept.
Matthew 8:24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.

5. HE loved.
Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

John 11:36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

6. HE had compassion.
Matthew 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

Matthew 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

7. HE was angry and grieved.
Mark 3:4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

8. HE showed reverential trust.
Hebrews 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

9. HE groaned.
John 11:33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.

10. HE wept.
Luke 19:41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

Hebrews 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

11. HE prayed.
Matthew 14:23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Without a doubt, CHRIST also possessed the sex instinct although it is not referred to in the Scripture. However, if HE did not than Hebrews 4:15 wouldn´t be true.
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

JESUS possessed body, soul, and spirit.

1. HE had a body.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Matthew 26:12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

JESUS´ body was buried, Luke 23:52-56 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

2. HE had a soul.
Matthew 26:38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

JESUS´ soul went to Paradise at death.
Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

3. HE had a spirit. It returned to the Father at HIS death.
Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

JESUS died.
The biological end of life is death. Man is born to die.

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

JESUS had to keep this rule.
JESUS was in the prime of life at the time of the crucifixion.
Luke 23:33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

The purpose of CHRIST coming to earth was to die. Death is proof of HIS humanity.
JESUS still possesses a body. Even after HIS resurrection.

Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

John 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

Stephen saw JESUS standing at the right hand of GOD. JESUS was human and HE was like us in every way except for two very important points.

1. HE did not possess a sin nature or original sin.

2. HE was sinless because HE never committed not even one sin.

Let us praise our wonderful LORD and SAVIOUR for HIS love for us and for the sacrifice HE made so that we might have eternal life.

Lesson 11 The Humanity of CHRIST

Part 2

JESUS was subject to the laws of human development.

1. HE grew.
Luke 2:40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

2. HE asked questions.
Luke 2:46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

3. HE increased in wisdom.
Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

4. HE learned to be obedient.
Hebrews 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

5. HE suffered.
Hebrews 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Hebrews 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

6. HE worked as a carpenter until the age of thirty.
Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

HIS age is given in Luke 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

7. HE was tempted.
Matthew 4:1-11 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Lesson 11 The Humanity of CHRIST

Part 1

Certain things were required of CHRIST in order that HE be our SAVIOUR. It was necessary for JESUS to not only be Divine and virgin-born, but HE had to be a true man as well. HE was like us in every respect except one. HE was sinless.

I Timothy 2:5 For there is one GOD, and one mediator between GOD and men, the man (human) CHRIST JESUS.

JESUS had to be made like us in order to be a “faithful high priest in things pertaining to GOD.

Hebrews 2:17. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

JESUS was born under the law so that HE might redeem us from the law.

Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

The first Adam brought sin and death. CHRIST, the second Adam, brought resurrection and life.

I Corinthians 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

In this lesson we will look as some scriptural proof of CHRIST´s humanity.

JESUS was given human names

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

In I Timothy 2:5 (quoted above) JESUS is called a man.
The phrase “Son of man” emphasizes HIS humanity. It occurs 77 times in the Scripture.

Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

As he was dying, Stephen saw JESUS and called HIM “Son of man”.

Acts 7:56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

JESUS had human ancestry

To get a puppy you must have dog parents. In order that JESUS be human HE must have had a human parent. HE had a human parent in the person of HIS mother, Mary.

Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

JESUS was born of the seed and lineage of David.

Acts 13:23 Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

In Matthew 1:1-16 the genealogy of CHRIST is traced from Abraham to CHRIST.
The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;

And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Hebrews 7:14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

JESUS possessed a physical nature.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

To deny that JESUS CHRIST is a man is a mark of antichrist.

I John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
