Lesson 8 The Virgin Birth of CHRIST

Part 2

Purpose of the Virgin Birth

To reveal GOD.
John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

To bridge the abyss between GOD and man.
I Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

To save mankind.
Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

To rescue all of creation.
Romans 8:19-22 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

Importance of the Doctrine of the Virgin Birth

Just as the modernists and liberals of our day attack the doctrines of the Deity of Christ, the inspiration of Scripture and the total depravity of man, they also attack this doctrine.

If man is totally depraved then he stands in need of a SAVIOUR to redeem him. That SAVIOUR must be pure and capable. The only possible SAVIOUR of the world is JESUS CHRIST. And the only way that JESUS could become a man without a sin nature was by the virgin birth.

A virgin is a woman or girl who has not known a man in a sexual relationship. Mary remained a virgin until after the birth of JESUS. After JESUS´ birth she and Joseph lived together as husband and wife.

Salvation is closely linked with the doctrine of the virgin birth. If JESUS had not been born of a virgin we, you and I, would still be lost sinners.

The virgin birth is undeniably true. It is definitely taught in the Bible, and we, as Christians, accept the inspiration of the Scriptures and believe this doctrine to be absolutely true.

The virgin birth is unchangeably true. This doctrine stands with Scripture and doesn´t change with the changing times or thoughts or theories of mankind.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

The virgin birth is urgently true. It is essential to the plan of salvation. Without a virgin-born SAVIOUR, salvation would be impossible.

It is undiscernibly true. It is a mystery hidden by GOD. There is a sense in which all life and birth is a mystery. We Christians are to be good stewards of the mysteries of GOD.
I Corinthians 4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

It is unconditionally true. I believe that this truth must be accepted.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Here we are to confess JESUS as LORD. If HE were not virgin-born, HE cannot be the SAVIOUR because HE would have broken the prophecy.

It is a useful truth. ALMIGHTY GOD has entered the world as a man - but as a sinless man, a man without a sin nature, a man who can save others. One of CHRIST´s names “Emmanuel” means “GOD with us”. This is truth. GOD came to earth in the form of a man to live among us and to show us the way.

It is unavoidably true. We hear the story year after year at Christmas. We must teach the virgin-birth of our SAVIOUR.

Significance of the Virgin Birth

JESUS is not a ghost or a phantom. HE was a real human being. HE was truly man, bone and flesh.
Philipians 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

HE has become our “elder brother”.

JESUS was also GOD and He remained GOD because of the HOLY GHOST conception.

JESUS was sinless because HE was virgin-born without inheriting a fallen sinful, corrupt human nature. HE was without original sin.

We need to thank GOD daily. HE found a way to bring a SAVIOUR without the taint of original sin into the world.
