Lesson 13 The Character of CHRIST

Part 4

JESUS Was Meek.

Meekness is the attitude of mind that is opposed to harshness and contentiousness (Torrey)
Meekness demonstrates itself in gentleness and tenderness toward others.
JESUS says HE is meek.

Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Look at what Paul asked the Corinthians.
I Corinthians 4:21 What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?

We, as Christians, are to learn meekness.
Galatians6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

II Timothy 2:24-25 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

JESUS Was Humble

JESUS was not only meek, HE was also humble.

Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

HE was humble because HE did not seek HIS own glory, but the FATHER´s glory.

John 8:50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

Because of HIS humility HE was able to associate with publicans and with sinners.

Luke 15:1-2 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

HE demonstrated HIS humility by washing HIS disciples´s feet.

John 13:4-5 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

HE demonstrated HIS humility by HIS sacrifice.

Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

It is not enough that we imitate CHRIST. WE must reproduce the holiness, love, compassion, meekness and humility of JESUS CHRIST.

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

We must yield ourselves to HIM.

Romans 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
