Lesson 14 The Teachings of CHRIST

Part 1

In lesson 14, I want us to touch on the main teachings of CHRIST during HIS earthly ministry. I say “touch on” because we could truly spend the rest of my life studying HIS teachings.

During CHRIST´s ministry here on earth, HE gave three long sermons or discourses. Because of the length of these three passages of Scripture, I want to do something a little different this week. The reading of these passages will be the first part of this lesson. If you are interested in truly in-depth study, you might want to take notes as you read. Also, you might want to read through these passages more than once.

1. The Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew chapters 5 through 7.

2. The Olivet Discourse found in Matthew chapters 24 and 25.

3. The Discourse in the Upper Room found in John chapters 13 through 16.

There were, of course, many shorter messages. Someone has stated that JESUS touched on 18 subjects just in the Sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 7:28-29 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Luke 4:22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

Luke 4:32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

Many felt HIS teachings were new, revolutionary, and contrary to human reasoning. I personally feel that they were (are) right. Be sure to read the three passages of Scripture. Next week we will begin with CHRIST´s teachings about salvation.
